The 18 agenda items were quickly processed yesterday at the most recent meeting of the Steyr municipal council. Against the votes of the FP parliamentary group, it was decided to convert the city lighting to LED. The Linz-based company Elin will carry out the conversion; the undertaking will cost 3.2 million euros over the next three years. “Our budget currently doesn’t allow for this,” said Deputy Mayor Helmut Zöttl (FP) at the meeting. He would have preferred to invest the money in run-of-river power plants along the Steyr. “This way we as a city could feed in our own electricity.”
According to Zöttl, the Streichwehr construction site near St. Anna would have been a good opportunity to take action in this regard. As reported, damage to the weir drained the weir ditch on October 14th. Thousands of aquatic creatures threatened to die. The weir needs extensive repairs, which the local council also decided on yesterday. The renovation costs 495,000 euros, of which the city of Steyr has to spend 165,000 euros.
The Black Bridge was also a topic. Here too, an extensive renovation costing 800,000 euros is pending. The bridge is being strengthened by Himmlitzer Au Immobilien GmbH to a payload of 30 tons. Himmlitzer Au Immobilien GmbH is part of the Lower Austrian Fortuna Group, which wants to build around 30 residential units in Unterhimmel.
