According to investigators, the car of the 22-year-old engineering student, who disappeared with his ex-girlfriend, crossed the Austrian border in Tarvisio for the first time on Sunday. The vehicle was also said to have been located in Carinthia two days ago, Italian media reported.
The Italian police informed their Austrian colleagues. It is feared that the young man may have murdered his ex-girlfriend and fled in his car. It cannot be ruled out that he is holding her against her will.
Witness observed argument
The man he was looking for picked up his ex-girlfriend from her hometown of Vigonovo in the province of Venice late on Saturday afternoon. The two were seen together in a shopping center around 8 p.m. The student sent her last text message to her sister at 10:43 p.m., and her ex-boyfriend’s cell phone was last located at around 11 p.m. in the municipality of Fossó on the Riviera del Brenta – not far from where the young woman was with her family lived.
The two students had been together for a year and a half before breaking up last summer; However, the contact between the two never completely ended. Both families reported missing persons to the Carabinieri on Sunday. A witness is said to have seen the two arguing. He alerted the police, but when they arrived the car was already gone. Traces of blood were discovered in the parking lot where the two students were last seen and are now being analyzed. The student’s father does not rule out the possibility that his daughter could have been murdered.
Investigations into suspected murder
The Venice public prosecutor’s office opened an investigation against the student on suspicion of murder on Friday. A search of the house where he lived with his parents was ordered. Investigators are currently examining a video that shows the student assaulting his ex-girlfriend. The footage was recorded by surveillance cameras in a warehouse in the industrial area, not far from Vigonovo.
It shows the dramatic moments in which the man pounces on the student, attacks her and repeatedly hits her with his fists until she lies lifeless on the floor. A search for the two engineering students from the University of Padua also took place in the South Tyrolean Puster Valley. The search for the Fiat Punto was ongoing in the forests, but also on the side streets of the Alta Pusteria. On Friday the search was expanded to the municipality of San Candido and Dobbiaco. The investigators did not say whether there was any concrete evidence. A large contingent of carabinieri from Venice is expected in the municipalities of Sexten and San Candido. The man being sought is considered a great mountain lover and was on holiday in Sesto.
The family members of the two students repeated their appeals for them to come forward. The wanted student was supposed to present her diploma thesis at the University of Padova on Thursday, so she also organized a party with family and friends.
