The European Union highlighted Uruguay as a regional leader in sustainability

He ambassador of the European Union (EU) in Uruguay, Paolo Berizzi, considered that the country is “a regional leader” in issues of sustainability, by highlighting the strengths that this block observes in environmental matters.

During his participation in the European Business Meeting, he valued that doing business with the country is also “passing a message” to other nations in the region that sustainable and responsible behavior towards the world facilitates trade with the EU, by pointing out that these countries are “the most demanding” and are willing to pay a higher price for the merchandise.

Optimism about the Mercosur-EU agreement

When referring to the dilated Mercosur-EU agreement, Berizzi He assured that the fact that there is no news “is not necessarily bad news” and stated: “We are at a pace of meetings and meetings to move forward with this agreement that we have not had since 2019.”

Specifically, he explained that “every week there are several meetings at a technical level that are held by videoconference or in person” and noted: “We are advancing very quickly in everything that can be advanced.”

Although he maintained that the EU does not set deadlines, admitted that “there is a window of opportunity” that coincides with the Spanish presidency of the Council of the EU. “We are optimistic that it can be closed. We see from all parties a great will to seriously advance towards the final objective,” he highlighted.
