A spectacular kingfisher photo made him the winner of this year’s national competition for local professional photographers in the “Nature/Environment” category: Manfred Hesch. The 59-year-old with an eye for the essentials grew up in Schiedlberg and now lives in Hof near Salzburg. On Friday, November 24th, at 7 p.m., Austria’s best nature photographer will come to the State Music School in Pettenbach with his multimedia lecture “Adventure Wildlife Photography”.

After winning gold at the national competition, Hesch was recently able to celebrate first place at the state professional photography competition in Salzburg. Last year he won the gold medal in the nature category at the ÖVF state championship in Salzburg (note: Austrian Association of Photography).

Until 2018, Hesch had a production facility in Steyr, where building expedition vehicles was his challenge for more than 26 years. After selling the business, he followed his heart and started a new chapter in his life with wildlife photography. He now also offers photo workshops in which he passes on his photographic knowledge as well as his falconry knowledge to the participants.

Through his hunting and falconry training, the 59-year-old gained valuable knowledge for going into hunting areas in order to be even more successful in obtaining high-quality images. However, nature is not a wish concert and requires a lot of time and patience. As a member of the Austrian Nature Conservation Association and Birdlife Austria, the gentle, respectful treatment of nature and animals is a central concern of the photo specialist: “Seeing the world through the eyes of my lens” is the motto of the national prize winner.

A look behind the scenes

In his lecture on November 24th, Hesch will provide a look behind the scenes of the fascinating world of wildlife photography. After the lecture, he will answer the most burning questions about his heartfelt concerns. It will also be possible to have one or two technical discussions with the photo professional during the small talk that follows.
