On the exclusive “Amadeus Brilliant”, which sets off from Amsterdam, guests who arrived by plane or bus discover enchanting fishing villages, historic windmills and attractive cultural cities – and as a special highlight, flower experts and organic gardeners accompany the OÖN reader river cruise from Antwerp/Brussels (the can also be given as a Christmas present) to, among other things, take you through the world’s largest flower exhibition in the Keukenhof gardens. Every year in the beautiful spring park, around 4.5 million bulbs in more than 100 variations – daffodils, hyacinths, imperial crowns and, above all, tulips – grow into a bright, colorful sea of flowers.
First, the luxurious ship, which can accommodate a maximum of 150 passengers, stops in Arnhem. The “green city on the Rhine” with its eventful history impresses with wonderful parks, interesting museums, fashion and design. We continue to Middelburg, the capital of the province of Zeeland, which has more than 1200 listed houses, including one of the most important Gothic town halls and the Lange Jan, the 91 meter high octagonal tower of the abbey.
In the old merchant town of Ghent with its magnificent houses on the Leiehafen, a visit to the world-famous “Ghent Altar” in St. Bavo’s Cathedral, which dates back to 1432, is also on the program. Alternatively, a trip to the “Pearl of Flanders”, Bruges, is possible in the afternoon – with a guided tour of the medieval city center, which has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The next day we visit Antwerp, the city of Rubens and the world center for diamonds. Or you can choose Brussels with the Atomium, European Parliament, old town tour and Manneken Pis.
Finally, we head for Rotterdam, the “Manhattan on the Meuse”, where we can take a boat trip through one of the largest ports in the world before admiring the tulip blossoms in Keukenhof in the afternoon with the organic gardener.
The final highlight of the river cruise is Amsterdam, which is explored on foot. Karl Ploberger will delight travelers with the famous flower market before – depending on the weather – a canal cruise or a self-guided stroll through the “Venice of the North”.
