The child’s voice is said to have called out “help” several times and then the man could hear him crying. This took about 15 seconds until it was completely quiet again.
A police patrol from Neukirchen am Walde was ordered to the scene of the incident around 10 a.m. After a local search proved unpromising due to the lack of clarity in the search area, also because of the adjacent Natternbach, and the extensive sewage network, the Natternbach and Tal fire department was alerted at 10:26 a.m. to search for the source.
Consequently, the Gallspach high-altitude rescue team also took part in the search. The rescue team was also on site. The water treatment officer from the municipality of Natternbach was also called in as a system expert.
Due to the unsuccessful search by the emergency services in the area, the diving group was alerted by the operations manager of the FF Natternbach. The diving groups from FF Schärding, FF Stadl Paura, FF Marchtrenk and FF Ried im Innkreis then went to the scene of the incident. All possible shafts that were flooded with water were pumped out and searched by divers. The operation was ended around 3:30 p.m.
