The municipality of Vöcklabruck awarded Helmut Kasbauer the Gold Medal of Honor for his achievements in local research.

The Vöcklabruck hometown in its current form would not exist without Kasbauer. The former director of the BG Vöcklabruck took over the management of the house and the local association from Libert Kickinger almost two decades ago. Since then he has managed the museum with great care. A lot was renewed in his era. The prehistoric collection was redesigned, all the clocks were repaired (every one works) and a shoemaker’s workshop was added to the collection. With 800 exhibits, the museum houses one of the largest collections of pile dwellings in Austria. School classes often visit to immerse themselves in the past of the city and the region.

It is thanks to Kasbauer’s careful local research that the home building is constantly being expanded to include new exhibits. Over the years he also initiated numerous renovation work – from new wooden floors to a new lightning protection system to the installation of a dehumidifier and a new heater.
