Lacalle Pou met with Chinese businessmen to promote commercial ties

The president of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Poumet this Tuesday with Chinese businessmen, in the first of numerous formal activities that he will maintain during his official tour of Chinawhere tomorrow he will hold a state meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

The president, who visits the Asian giant in what the Executive describes as the most important trip of the administration, had a meeting with the president of the Chinese Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Ren Hongbinthe largest business chamber in that country.

The meeting opened a day in which the Uruguayan delegation, in which the Ministers of Foreign Affairs participated, Omar Paganiniof Economy and Finance (MEF), Azucena Arbeleche; and Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries (MGAP), Fernando Mattoswill be dedicated to promoting the export goods and services of Uruguay.

Part of this is the seminar “Business Relations UruguayChina: Deepening of links towards a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership”, which will be followed by a business network.

In the afternoon, the president Luis Lacalle Pou will give a lecture at Tsinghua Universityreported the Foreign Ministry.

The highlight of the president’s strategic visit to China It will be tomorrow, with the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, in which some type of progress is expected in a new paradigm of bilateral trade relationship, although less than the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) that the Executive wanted.

2022 was a year of record exports for Uruguay and in the global figures China had a fundamental role: as the main trading partner, it represented 28% of the exports of goods, with 3,675 million dollars exported, according to the annual report of Uruguay XXI. This meant an annual increase of 12% in loans to the Asian country.

Likewise, beef was the main product placed by the country on the international market. Within this global figure, China It once again occupied first place with a share of 58% ($1,475 million). Of the total placements in the Chinese market, meat placements represented, in turn, 40%.
