The musical premiered in Fulda on June 4, 2022, and more than 200,000 people have now seen it. The musical “Robin Hood”, composed by global star Chris de Burgh together with Dennis Martin, has already become a hit. “I have already written 330 songs,” said Chris de Burgh, who became world famous with his hit “Lady in Red,” at a press conference in Linz. “But writing a musical was a wonderful new challenge.” Chris de Burgh himself has a connection to the material: He comes from an old noble family, one of his ancestors wrote the laws for King John, the brother of Richard the Lionheart. The story of Robin Hood takes place during this time. “We all love the idea of taking something from the rich and giving it to the poor,” he said.

The premiere was directed by Linz musical director Matthias Davids and he will make some adaptations for the Linz performance. “I really liked the libretto from the start,” he said. “It tells the story of how Robin Hood evolves from an anti-hero to a good person.” The musical was developed by, among others, Dennis Martin from spotlight Musicals, who wanted to get inspiration from outside for the composition. “Chris de Burgh was exactly the right person,” said managing director Peter Scholz. “He grew up in a castle himself and has a strong connection to history.” De Burgh composed eight new songs and his hit “Don’t Pay the Ferryman” was re-adapted. Chris de Burgh also wants to come to the premiere himself. “I’m looking forward to Linz,” he said.
