Arge wants to own his own home “new money” use for renovation

The Arge Wohnung Österreich expects a massive drop in housing completions from 2024. Climate protection money from the financial equalization should also flow into the renovation of existing buildings; for example, 37 percent of non-profit apartments would be heated with fossil fuels. The consortium wants to see almost half of the 2.6 billion euros provided for by the Renewable Heat Act (EEC) used for multi-story residential construction and the modernization of existing buildings.

The Arge Hause is an association of around 100 residential construction companies close to VP with an administrative portfolio of more than 400,000 units, 5,000 employees and an annual construction volume of around one billion euros.

“The Arge Hause advocates that around 1.1 billion euros be used for multi-story residential construction in Austria to modernize existing buildings, which corresponds to around 9,000 residential units”said federal chairman Christian Struber, who is also chairman of the supervisory board of the Austrian Association of Non-Profit Building Associations, at a press conference this week.

“Switching from oil and gas to renewable energy sources is an essential prerequisite for achieving climate goals”, Struber reminded. The non-profit organizations are pioneers here and have already made major investments in the heating transition. “With additional funds from the future fund of around 300 million euros and the EEC, we can further promote these investments”Struber appealed to the federal and state governments.

“Systematic risk”

Criticism of the Credit Institutions Real Estate Financing Measures Ordinance (KIM Ordinance) was renewed by the Homeowners Association. “This regulation created a systemic risk”says Herwig Pernsteiner, director of the Innviertler cooperative ISG and deputy chairman of the Austrian Association of Non-Profit Building Associations. The building permit figures show that the development will continue to get worse in the next few months, said Pernsteiner.
