Ski Cross: Rohrweck starts cautiously, but with good memories

They had to be patient longer than most other divisions, and now the ski crossers in the World Cup are also being let off the leash. This week starts with the classic in Val Thorens, where the qualifications take place today and Wednesday and the finals on Thursday and Friday. After the retirement of former world champion Andrea Limbacher, a strong trio from Upper Austria is holding the flags high.

Johannes Rohrweck from Großramingen in particular knows how things work there. Last season he won the first race of the winter. But not much worked after that: the veteran was set back by a serious fall in San Candido. Rohrweck then struggled for a long time with a concussion and problems in the pelvic and adductor areas.

“That’s why I had to adjust my training in the summer and fall, but I’m still going into the season well prepared. After missing a large part of last winter, I now have to get back into racing mode. I’ll take it from ride to ride approach it and don’t risk everything right away. I like the route in Val Thorens, the weather looks good too,” says Rohrweck.

Daniel Traxler has also learned to deal with injuries during his career. The 30-year-old from Spital am Pyhrn is the stand-up man in the ÖSV team. And excited for the start of the season: “It’s finally starting, we’ve trained well,” says Traxler before the start of the eleven-station 2023/24 World Cup, which will also be hosted at the Reiteralm in February.

Utzenaicher Christina Födermayr forms the women’s delegation with vice world champion Katrin Ofner in the French ski resort. “It would be nice to have a big final this season, to get into the top eight,” says the 2022 Junior World Championship bronze medalist. The 22-year-old worked primarily in the strength area in the summer in order to be even more competitive.
