Temperatures at night around freezing point and rain – this combination led to partly glassy roads throughout Upper Austria on Tuesday. This resulted in several accidents and vehicle recoveries. However, the fire department assumes that the situation will ease in the morning. “As it is now getting warmer in the morning, the roads should become more navigable again during the day,” says Hannes Niedermayr, an officer on duty at the state warning center.

Nevertheless, there is still an eventful evening ahead for the emergency services. “There is a weather warning for the evening and night. Gusts of up to 100 km/h are expected throughout Upper Austria,” says Niedermayr. A more precise forecast will follow later this morning. The last storm that passed through the country is probably still well remembered by many Upper Austrians. Shortly before Christmas, more than 2,500 firefighters were on duty because of the storm Zoltan.
