It was three months ago that Thomas Stelzer stood in front of the door of the Hinterwirth bakery. The state governor (VP) came to Gmunden in person to congratulate Gerhart Hinterwirth. And he had to do that twice: The industry magazine “Falstaff” not only voted the bakery the most popular baker in the country, but also sent an award for the most popular donut to the Salzkammergut.

Now Gerhart Hinterwirth can once again look forward to praise for his donuts: again it was “Falstaff”, but this time the readers decided by voting. The Backhaus Hinterwirth came out on top ahead of the Café-Konditorei Poißl in Freistadt. “We are even more pleased about this award because it did not come from a jury of experts, but from the audience,” says Gerhart Hinterwirth.
The Grellinger pastry shop in Gmunden took third place in the Stockerl, Bad Ischl’s “Zauner” came fifth in the voting. The Obauer bakery in Zell am Moos also made it onto the sweet list with ninth place. The Hinterwirth bakery is now run by Gerhart in the sixth generation.
