LEADER region Wels-Land is again supporting small and large projects

The year 2024 has begun for the Wels-Land LEADER region with a new managing director: Christina Gnadlinger replaced Magdalena Hellwagner and will lead the allocation process for EU funding in the future. “I’m looking forward to working for the region and accompanying the projects from start to finish,” says the 39-year-old.

Around 300,000 euros are available this year. In terms of content, the projects can fit into one or more of four thematic blocks that the LEADER region has defined:

• increase in Value creation in the region
• Consolidation of natural ressources and des cultural heritage
• Strengthening the common good
• Climate protection and Adjustment to climate change

What’s new this year is the call system: “There will be several funding calls throughout the year in which projects will be submitted. There will always be a few weeks’ break in between during which we evaluate,” says Gnadlinger. The current call runs until April 5th, and LEADER provides information about the two additional submission windows on the website and in social media.

Four projects initiated

Since the start of the current funding period in mid-2023, four larger projects have already been initiated or implemented: A new “forest waterway” is currently being finalized in Neukirchen near Lambach, and “Aunt Mitzi’s Culture Café” is currently being built in Fischlham. Lambach is getting an evolution museum, and a new educational trail on the history of the community is being created in Thalheim.

“Our own funding pot has proven to be very effective for smaller projects, which is why it will be filled again this year,” says Gnadlinger. A total of 35,000 euros will be available in 2024 for projects requiring funding of up to 6,000 euros. Last year, these funds were used to implement, for example, a bee educational trail and a new waste separation concept for rural youth. The requirements are the same as for larger projects, but the bureaucratic hurdles are fewer. The submission process has been simplified in some respects. “In the past year, we have supported many projects that are only possible through voluntary work,” says the managing director.

The LEADER region itself will also initiate some projects in 2024. “We are excited to see what exciting impulses this year will bring to the region,” says managing director Gnadlinger.
