After two years and three rounds of tenders, Wels has a new construction director: Wolfgang Pichler, the previous head of the urban development department, will in future head the construction department with its around 70 employees.
The 50-year-old native of Carinthia studied landscape planning at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna and was a research assistant there before moving to the Joanneum Graz University of Applied Sciences as a lecturer. After running a technical office for landscape planning for a few years, the Wahl-Welser became managing director of the LEADER region Wels-Land. In 2013 he joined the city of Wels as a city planner and has been the department head since 2022. Pichler prevailed against 15 competitors in the hearings, which were carried out in accordance with the Upper Austrian Objectification Act.
Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP) congratulates the new director: “Big tasks await him: Volksgarten, Traunbrücke and much more.” Municipal director Peter Franzmayr praises Pichler’s experience: “Together with his extensive professional expertise, these are the ideal conditions for his future work. “
