The Upper Austrian Chamber of Commerce announced the figures for last year on Wednesday. Compared to 2022 with 5,994 new businesses, this represents an increase of 1.9 percent. In addition to the 6,108 new companies founded throughout the state – 1,006 of them in the city of Linz – there are 506 takeovers, which is the same number as in the previous year.

“Even in these turbulent times, people in Upper Austria are putting their desire for self-employment into practice, and never before have there been as many as in 2023,” says Chamber of Commerce President Doris Hummer. As far as the sectors are concerned, trade and crafts are leading the way with 2,817 new start-ups first place, followed by trade (1668), information and consulting (1029) and tourism and leisure (298).

According to the Chamber of Commerce, both the new legal form FlexCo and this year’s reduction in corporate tax to 23 percent would make Austria more attractive internationally. In the previous year, the interest group led around 2100 start-up consultations.
