Fortunately, the oil-like liquid that escaped from a sewage pipe in Steinbach an der Steyr shortly after noon on Sunday and got into the Steyr turned out to be harmless. The police reported this on Monday.
The three volunteer fire departments from Steinbach, Pieslwang and Klaus had previously been in action on Sunday until the afternoon. A passerby reported an oil leak into the Steyr River. In order to prevent it from spreading in the river, the emergency services set up oil barriers and removed the liquid with oil-binding fleece and oil binding agents. After evaluating water samples from the Steyr, it is clear that it was neither oil nor a harmful substance.
