The countdown is running. Austria’s women’s national soccer team will open the year 2024 in two weeks with a training camp in Marbella, and two test international matches against caliber players in the industry are on the program. On February 23rd (8:45 p.m., TVthek) the showdown with European champions England will take place in Algeciras, and on February 28th (4:30 p.m., ORF Sport+) the one with the Danish team will take place in the Marbella Football Center.

“Such duels are entirely to my liking, because we will face exactly such challenges in the European Championship qualification from April,” said ÖFB head coach Irene Fuhrmann. The road to the 2025 finals is definitely rocky, the opponents will only emerge on March 5th when the groups are drawn. The goal is clearly to reach the third finals in a row. In 2017, the red-white-red selection sensationally made it to the semi-finals, and in 2022 they reached the quarter-finals (out against Germany).

A 23-man squad was nominated for the camp on the southern Spanish Costa del Sol, including 20 legionnaires. Three Upper Austrians are also there: Claudia Wenger (SKN St. Pölten) from St. Ulrich bei Steyr, Annabel Schasching (SC Freiburg) from St. Aegidi and Lisa Kolb (SC Freiburg) from Vöcklabruck. Arsenal full-back Laura Wienroither from Frankenburg is on the way back after tearing her cruciate ligament at the beginning of May, but it would be too early for the 25-year-old to be nominated.

Marchtrenker Isabel Aistleitner (Vienna FC), a fixture in the U19 national team, made it onto the call-up list for the first time. Fuhrmann thinks highly of the 19-year-old striker: “The fact that she is in the extended squad is a reward for her constant performance and her development, but at the same time it is also the task of building on this and becoming a real alternative for the ÖFB team in the future be.”
