Accident on the B1 in Gunskirchen: Seriously injured man freed after 2 hours

A 20-year-old was driving his panel van onto the opposite lane while driving on the B1 towards Lambach. After hitting a truck, the young Welser’s van skidded and crashed into the oncoming car in which a couple from Rutzenham (Vöcklabruck district) was sitting.

Due to the force of the impact, the two vehicles became wedged, turned 180 degrees and finally came to a stop on the embankment next to the road. It took two hours for the 67-year-old driver to be freed from the completely deformed car wreck by emergency services from the Fernreith and Gunskirchen fire departments.

B1 closed for three hours

During the rescue work, the man received emergency medical care. He and his wife of the same age as well as the perpetrator suffered serious injuries and were taken to the Wels Clinic. Another car was damaged by flying car parts – but the driver was uninjured.

Federal Highway 1 was closed in the area of ​​the accident site for three hours and a local diversion was set up.
