Swedish prosecutor Ljungqvist said the comprehensive investigation had found nothing to suggest that Swedes or Swedish citizens were involved in the attack in international waters. The Swedish authorities have now handed over the files on the case to Germany.
Investigations in Germany continue
For its part, the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the investigations on the German side are ongoing. “No further information is currently being provided,” said a spokeswoman in Karlsruhe on Wednesday. Danish police also said that investigations into the explosions in Denmark were continuing. The authorities wanted to publish new information about this “soon,” it said on Wednesday.

Remains of explosives found
The Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipelines running through the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany were severely damaged by explosions on September 26, 2022, seven months after Russia’s attack on Ukraine. Sweden later announced that they had found remains of explosives on the pipes. Since then, Western countries and Russia have been blaming each other
In an initial reaction, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov described Sweden’s termination of the investigation as “remarkable”. Russia will closely monitor Germany’s Nord Stream investigations, said Kremlin spokesman Peskov in Moscow.
