The name “House of Rings” goes back to the coat of arms of Pastor Arnoldus Taubenbrunner, on which three rings can be seen. He had the building built as a rectory between 1462 and 1493. The design of the exhibition was painstakingly carried out by cultural advisor Karl Hager and Tini Hager. Karl Hager will also guide through the exhibition in the future.
Three exhibition rooms
The museum includes three listed exhibition rooms from the Middle Ages. The former, the fresco room, contains art-historically valuable frescoes from the 15th century. The client was Pastor Arnoldus Taubenbrunner. The central theme of the illustrations is one “Wrong world”, framed by a monkey plunder, a land of milk and honey and the representation of the power and cunning of women in a world dominated by men at the time. The “Wrong world” is illustrated by fish in trees and birds in the pond. The second room, the chapel, is about the parish and local history of Ostermiething. Well-known personalities from the clergy and secular life who worked in Ostermiething are introduced. Among others, the martyr Theophil Ruderstaller, who was murdered in China, and the plague priest Josef Aichpointner. Documents and objects from the parish and community from previous centuries can also be seen.
The exhibition in the vaulted room is dedicated to the Dietrich wax and gingerbread factory, which existed in the town until 1961. The objects come from the collection of Georg Niedetzky, who saved them from disappearing when he lived in Ostermiething. The project sponsor is the association “Lovely Easter rental”. The construction of the museum was supported by Leader Oberinnviertel-Mattigtal, the market town of Ostermiething, Stampfl Verwaltungs-GesmbH and private sponsors.
