Blue and White goes into the spring with a new captain
Fabio Strauss will lead Blue-White onto the field as captain against Altach

“It felt like my hundredth preparation. Afterwards, I’m always happy when it’s about points again,” says Blue-White Linz coach Gerald Scheiblehner before the spring opener on Saturday at Altach. In Vorarlberg, the Linz team is also undergoing a leadership change within its team: Fabio Strauss was appointed the new captain of the Stahlstadt club during the winter break.

The defender had already represented Michael Brandner in the autumn because he had hardly had any playing time since being promoted to the Bundesliga. He has now been officially appointed the new captain by the blue and white vice-captain – also at Brandner’s request, as Strauss reveals: “That was also his decision, which I have great respect for. I also previously took on a leadership role together with Brandi. Due to his current sporting situation, I will take on the role for him on the pitch.”

According to Scheiblehner, you can also rely on the 28-year-old midfielder even if he is not currently part of the regular lineup: “He has strong competition in his position with Koch, Krainz and Briedl. But everyone who knows Brandi knows: he is there, when you need it.”

Honest and tough conversations with Dorbas

Kristijan Dobras was another guy who barely got any playing time in the fall. But the 31-year-old showed his potential in preparation. Scheiblehner: “He is one of the positive phenomena in the preparation. We had several conversations that were honest and tough. He accepted it very well.”

While the offensive player is again a serious option for Scheiblehner, the blue and white coach Stefan Haudum in Altach also has to do without an important part of his three-man chain: The defender suffered a hairline crack in his scaphoid in the final test against Vienna and falls several weeks out.

Striker Ronivaldo is definitely an issue for the starting eleven on Saturday: “Big compliments to Roni for coming back so quickly after this serious injury despite his age. You can tell from him that he fights every day to play in the Bundesliga “He can be considered for the starting eleven.”
