After 38 years of service, 20 of which were as head of the ÖAMTC at the Steyr base, Leo Pfleger recently retired. Pfleger, who began his career as a “Yellow Angel” in 1985 at the then location on Haratzmüllerstrasse, has shaped the ÖAMTC in Steyr over the past two decades. Under his leadership, the number of club members doubled from around 14,600 in 2003 to around 28,000 the previous year.
His successor Matthias Lechner returns to his home base with the change in management. From 2005 he worked here in the inspection service and in roadside assistance. In 2019 he moved to the Linz regional directorate as a technical trainer and took on a key role in the training area. Since the beginning of the year he has been responsible for the Steyr base with 25 employees. Lechner lives in Dietach and enjoys spending his free time with his two children, playing tennis, hiking and skiing.
“On behalf of the ÖAMTC, we would like to thank Leo Pfleger for his dedicated work over the last decades. He was a ‘Yellow Angel’ with all his heart and soul. With Matthias Lechner we have gained a successor who is extremely well qualified both professionally and personally,” says State Director Harald Großauer.
In 2023, the Steyr breakdown assistants were deployed on 6,437 missions. In addition, there were 1,247 towings and 13,110 breakdowns were repaired directly at the base.
