“How many times does a cow go? And then twice more in one day. It was definitely an unusual day for us,” said Florian Schmidbauer, commander of the Ried Volunteer Fire Department, in an interview with OÖN yesterday. On Monday, the emergency services were called to the exhibition grounds for the first time shortly after half past seven in the morning. A calf escaped during loading work on the premises of the Fleckvieh Breeding Association (FIH). The fire brigade and police were alerted and cordoned off the exhibition area. With the help of FIH employees, the animal was brought back into the stable after around an hour, the OÖN reported.

The peace didn’t last long. Shortly after 3 p.m., the blue light organizations had to go to the exhibition center again. Once again, a cow escaped during loading work and fled towards the stadium. Four people were injured in the Brucknerstrasse area, including while trying to catch the cow. Three people were taken to hospital for evaluation.

Elderly man seriously injured

An elderly man who was riding his bicycle was seriously injured by the cow. Christian Dobler-Strehle, district manager, confirmed this on Tuesday at the request of OÖNachrichten. The cyclist is being treated in the intensive care unit and has not yet been interviewed.

It is highly likely that the police will investigate negligence.
