Starting next week, Wels residents can apply for the energy cost subsidy of 100 euros, which the local council decided at the end of January: From March 1st to 29th it is possible to submit the necessary documents to the new party transport office of the social service department in the town hall. Submissions are possible online from March 1st to April 30th.

The criteria are similar to those for the aid payments that the city paid out last year: people with their own household who have had a permanently inhabited main residence in Wels since at least November 1, 2023 are eligible.
For single-person households, the net income limit for the claim is 1,950 euros, for multi-person households it is 2,800 euros. The limit increases by 120 euros per child. The monthly income from January 2024 serves as the basis for the application. Asylum seekers, those entitled to subsidiary protection and displaced persons as well as residents of facilities such as retirement homes or women’s shelters, but also prisoners and those housed in prisons are not eligible.
Voucher comes by mail
The energy cost subsidy is paid out by post in the form of a voucher that can be redeemed at the eww Group customer center at Pfarrgasse 1. “If someone doesn’t get the electricity from eww, it can be redeemed in another area – for example with the water or heating bill. This affects practically all Welsers. If there are special cases, a solution will be found for these too,” says deputy mayor and social officer Christa Raggl-Mühlberger (FP). Social assistance recipients and recipients of the subsidy that the city paid out before Christmas do not have to submit an application: they will receive the energy cost subsidy automatically.
“Energy costs are still at a very high level and are a real financial burden for many Wels residents,” says Mayor Andreas Rabl (FP). “With the energy cost subsidy, we support those who are particularly struggling with the increased costs. Because for us, we continue to say: We won’t let anyone down.”
