The “Kultur im Park” association, founded last year by Katharina Bigus and Alexander Knaipp, invites you to the stage of light-footed entertainment with depth at the Traun Theater Spring: How “six dance lessons in six weeks” can change two lives, tells the American Richard Alfieri in his eponymous Comedy.
Lily, a widowed former teacher, hires a dance teacher through an agency: Michael, juvenile, (apparently) fun-loving, and also gay. As different as they both seem at first glance, they have more in common than they even think.
They squirm around the truth
With Julia Ribbeck, a former member of the Landestheater, the direction is in expert hands, with which she allows the perfectly timed lightness to turn into the profound at the right moment. Because this comedy also touches on a lot of serious things, from loneliness to the pitfalls of looking for a partner to the frustration of marriage, from getting older that causes women to “disappear”, to illness, loss and death, from the ban on abortion to homophobia.
Two flamingos in the stage set, a living room in the style of the 60s, tell of the longing for lifelong love, but also of rebellion. It becomes a dance hall where Lily and Michael twirl to tango, waltz, foxtrot and twist. As smoothly as they both turn in the dance, they wrap themselves so elegantly around life’s wounds. They deceive, camouflage and hide what moves them. But the unleashing power of the desire to dance does not stop at the truth.
Katharina Bigus and Daniel Feik move lightly on this false surface as playful “dancing stars”. Bigus gives her Lily a dignified grandeur and youthful temperament. Daniel Feik sweeps through her life as an impetuous whirlwind, which is precisely what gives her support. Two steps forward and one step back – again and again both hot-tempered and painful, they climb on each other’s toes, hurt and forgive each other and discover – instead of sensual passion – the power of tender care and new courage to live. Strong applause.
Conclusion: Moving and moving entertainment art with charm
