All good things come in threes, it was said last Thursday in the infant ward at Rohrbach Hospital: three girls, Romy Lia, Magdalena Luisa and Annika, were born on Leap Day. “It is rather unusual for us to have three children born on February 29th,” says Primary Werner Hochmeir, head of the gynecology and obstetrics department: “In previous leap years there were one or at most two births.” By the way, the day with the highest number of births last year was April 18th with six newborns. “It started right after midnight this year,” says midwife Julia Stockinger. All three Rohrbacher leap day babies were born naturally without a cesarean section.
Little Eva took a whole week longer than expected to make her way out of mom’s belly at the hospital on February 29th. The due date was already on February 22nd. The parents Kerstin Einfalt and Erich Klopf from Gutau were overjoyed by their little sunshine and took the date in their stride: “She chose her birthday herself. We will celebrate her birthday on February 28th in other years.” Eva already has a big sister, two-year-old Lisa. Midwife Susanne Hofer and primary teacher Sebastian Jülg are happy with the family, who arrived at the maternity ward at the Freistadt Clinic at 7.20 a.m. What followed was an express birth: after just 37 minutes, Eva said “Welcome to life!”
