The government hopes that the space will become a kind of regional hub where different activities can be carried out. In that sense, since Puertas del Sur SA They proposed that different logistics activities could be developed, a courier terminal could be carried out, as well as that companies could consolidate various multimodal activities in that space.

“It will give life to an emblematic area that was abandoned and without any use. This is good news that is committed to development, growth and generating jobs,” said the Minister of Defense, Javier García in dialogue with Radio Montecarlo.

A company with history in airports

Previously, the Ministry of Defence had proposed that private companies take over the two side wings, while the ministry would retain the central part of the building.

However, after a failed tender where no one made proposals for the development of the building, Puertas del Sur SA He sent the proposal directly to the ministry, achieving great interest.

The company was previously in charge of the remodeling of seven airports within the Uruguay with a total investment of around 70 million dollars. In this case, the project for the old airport terminal of Carrasco contemplates the renovation of the two side wings of the old passenger terminal.
