According to police spokeswoman Julia Schick, the 41-year-old man was traveling downstream on a Belgian tanker and was reported missing by his colleagues on February 14th. The police ruled out foul play.
The tanker left the Lobau at 10 a.m. on February 14th. In Bratislava, the crew realized that their colleague was missing and reported his absence. A search by the water police, supported by a police helicopter, was initially unsuccessful.
Probably drowned
On Sunday, the water police were alerted because a person was floating in the water. The dead man was rescued with the help of the Vienna fire department. During the police investigation, the officers discovered that it was the 41-year-old German. He probably drowned; there was no evidence of foul play.
