The Linz Community Nurses project is a success story: Launched in March 2022 in the districts of Dornach-Auhof, Franckviertel and Kleinmünchen, it will now be expanded to all districts of Linz – due to high demand.
The Linz Community Nurses are six qualified health and nursing staff who act as the first point of contact and experts for all questions relating to the health and care of seniors – during consultation hours as well as during home visits.

The project offers a low-threshold service close to home for people in need of care, their relatives and all interested people, even before the need for care occurs. The clear goal is to delay hospital admission for as long as possible through early intervention and to improve awareness of preventive measures in nursing care.
Improved care
“With the project, we have succeeded in further improving the care of older people in Linz and their relatives and delaying institutionalization. The senior centers where the community nurses are stationed also benefit from this. This means they are increasingly perceived as centers of excellence and contact points where those affected can receive quick and unbureaucratic information and support on all questions relating to health and care,” says the deputy mayor Karin Hörzing (SP), who is responsible for social agendas, about the expansion.
They had more than 2,000 client contacts at the start, and the expansion is made possible with the increase in funding by 75,000 euros from Gesundheit Österreich GmbH. The project is scientifically supported by the Upper Austrian University of Applied Sciences.
