The women from SPG Geretsberg/Bürmoos started the second half of the 2nd Bundesliga with a respectable success. Coach Andreas Meindl’s team put the SG FAC Vienna – USC Landhaus in their place with 0:3 and thus scored “big points” in the fight against relegation. Given the fact that the ambitious Viennese team actually wanted to launch an upward attack in the spring, their success can be rated even higher. “It was clear to us from the start that it would be a difficult game. But we prepared well for the opponent and played with a lot of passion and heart,” says Meindl. The hosts had more of the game, but the SPG ultimately proved to be the masters of efficiency. Michelle Felber, Elena Danner and Lilli-Marie Braun played a key role in the success with their goals.
A must win?
The SPG women want to take the momentum from the opening game with them into the home match against Altenmarkt. The Lower Austrians are at the bottom of the table with just one point. “I don’t like to talk about a mandatory win, but we have to get the three points against Altenmarkt,” says Meindl. Even if the opponent has strengthened offensively at certain points, the SPG wants to overcome the (mandatory) hurdle. Kick-off is on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bürmoos.
