The lawyer of the pre-candidate for the presidency of Uruguay for him Broad Front, Yamandú Orsi, and former court prosecutor Jorge Diaz, He maintained that he was entrusted with the task of “getting to the core” in relation to the complaint filed against the former mayor of Canelones for alleged acts of aggression that occurred in 2014; and that from the environment of Orsi They call it a “dirty campaign.”
For the first time since the defense team began working on the case, the lead defense attorney for Orsi spoke publicly about the work she carries out around the complaint filed by the alleged victim, a 42-year-old trans woman. According to the former Court prosecutor, her main role is to “do a thorough investigation.”
“He described it as ‘getting to the bone’, I would use a less pretty image than that and I would say put the scalpel in and remove all the pus that is in all of this,” he explained in dialogue with Telemundo, in reference to all the situations that were generated as a result of the judicial presentation, in the context of a election campaign key for the country and from the first public complaint by the militant of the National Party, Romina Celeste Papasso.
“This case has two very clear facets, one political facet and one legal facet which is what has been entrusted to me and is what we are carrying out,” he stated and said he has a team working on an investigative folder of which, for the moment, he will not give details.
This care regarding the cause has been maintained from the beginning, after Orsi spoke on the subject for the first and only time at a press conference last Wednesday in which the complaint was presented. At that time, the Frente Amplista candidate assured that “this person is confused, it wasn’t me, or worse yet, someone could be using him. From now on my lawyers will speak on my behalf.”
Likewise, the former Canarian mayor maintained that “if they thought that with these types of actions my pre-candidacy was going to decrease, quite the opposite,” giving more strength to his campaign. “We are going to go all out,” he added.
The complaint against Orsi was assigned to the 2nd Shift Prosecutor’s Office of Ciudad de la Costa by the doctor Sandra Fleitas, and at the moment it is framed as a case of injuries – and not sexual assault, as had been initially considered – but the status could change as the investigation progresses.
Dirty campaign and trolls
Last week, the campaign manager Orsi, Francisco Legnani, warned about the existence of an “orchestrated campaign” against the candidate around the complaint for the alleged assault of a trans woman in 2014 and said that “1,000 foreign accounts” created to interact with the issue on social networks were detected.
Legnani assured that they still do not know “what is behind” what they understand as a premeditated action, but that “a series of concatenated events have occurred that lead to the assumption that the promoter of the first attack is not alone.” Along these lines, he pointed out that “they are campaigns in which nothing is invented, it’s just that sometimes Uruguay had not arrived, but it has been raised in other countries with the intention of ban candidates”, He added, and reported that the campaign command was working on an investigation to determine the origin of 1,000 foreign accounts, recently created and without followers, that interacted with the issue on social networks.
“Everything that has to do with possible complaints and the development of this entire case in court, the assessment will be made by the doctor. Diaz and his team, so it is not up to us to give our opinion,” said Legnani, for his part.
