JetSmart announced a new connection between Montevideo and Buenos Aires

The company will fly between Carrasco Airport and that of airpark, with two daily frequencies that will take about 55 minutes. It is scheduled to start on May 29 and the value would be around $70 per section.

The announcement was reported by the ambassador in Argentina, Carlos Enciso, who stressed that this is “good news for Uruguay” and stated that it occurs “after several negotiations,” after a meeting with authorities from the neighboring country.

In this way, the Chilean company will compete with the operations of Argentinian airlines and of Latam, that already have flights between both destinations.

The quest to expand air connectivity

In addition to regular flights between the capitals of the countries, Aerolíneas Argentinas operates a flight between Montevideo and the city of Bariloche, while one was scheduled to begin operating in the city of Mar del Plata, which ultimately did not prosper, within the framework of Uruguayan policy to expand air connectivity.

It is worth remembering that in 2023 the country added 24 frequencies to different destinations, both from Carrasco, where they went from 132 to 149, and from Laguna Del Sauce International Airport, which increased its numbers from 23 to 30.

In addition to the Argentine destinations, there are others operated by different companies such as Miami (United States) through American Airlines; the Brazilian city of Curitibathrough the Azul airline.

Other destinations are Panama, through the Panamanian Aviation Company (Copa Airlines); Saint Paul (Brazil), via Latam; JetSmart to Rio de Janeiro; Iberia to Madrid; SKY to Santiago de Chile, Lima, San Salvador de Bahía and Florianópolis, among others.
