The women of the Oberbank Steelvolleys Linz-Steg are still on track to defend their title in the AVL. The series champion of the past few years defeated UVC Graz in a 3-2 thriller in front of 600 fans in SMS Kleinmünchen and is now in the final. Linz-Steg had already decided the first semi-final in a tie-break. That shows mental strength.

“Thank God we scored the big points,” said coach Facundo Morando happily. “We could have made it easier for ourselves, but we are now all the happier that we have overcome the Graz hurdle. A big thank you to all the fans, that was great support. We hope that we can now attract even more people to the hall are sold out,” said captain Sophie Maass, looking ahead to the final series, which will begin on April 18th. The opponent has not yet been decided: record champions Sokol/Post and Innsbruck will play a playoff on Tuesday.

In the women’s relegation round, the Mühlviertel Volleys shone with a remarkable 3-1 win over the first division team Bisamberg-Hollabrunn. Despite third place in the table, the club does not (yet) have any promotion ambitions.

It has also been clear since Saturday that UVC McDonald’s Ried and Graz will play for fifth place and the last European Cup ticket. Ried prevailed against Sokol/Post in four sets.
