The LGBT Chamber of Commerce and Business of Uruguay (CCNLGBTU) It already has more than 240 national companies, after it began its functions from only three founding companies in 2015, with the aim of enhancing the business and competitiveness of the entrepreneurs belonging to the group.

In dialogue with radio Montecarlo, Adrian Russopresident of the CCNLGBTU, explained that although it was initially made up of three companies, the Chamber “positioned itself very strongly” in the country and internationally, winning the award for the best LGBT Chamber in the world in 2017. .

“As a mission we have to promote and work for the economic rights of the LGBTIQ+ community in our country, obviously working with companies of all sizes, from corporate to SMEs and artisans,” said the head of the CCNLGBTU. At the same time, he highlighted the fact that large companies at a national and international level are working “on diversity issues” in the country.

Likewise, Russo commented on the launch of the label LGBT+ Inclusive Companywhich seeks to function as an indicator of inclusive places in the Uruguaythat are free of discrimination by gender identity or sexual orientation.

“Many people think that today there is no discrimination in Uruguay”

“Many people think that today there is no discrimination in Uruguay by all the laws, but the laws are one thing and what we live every day is another thing,” he said.

Russo understands that “the cultural change is behind the laws” in the country, and that “there is no progress” in smaller cities, so the seal becomes a necessary tool to create inclusive and safe spaces for the Uruguayan LGBT+ community.

In that sense, he regretted that Russia to include the LGBT community in its list of “terrorist organizations.” “We are totally at the opposite end of what is happening in Russia and other countries,” he said.
