After the successful premiere last year, the “JKU Campus Run” is returning this year for the second edition: students, lecturers and university employees, but also sports enthusiasts with no connection to the university, will compete against each other on June 5th. There is a separate rating for school classes this year.
The main route is already known: After a lap around the university pond, we continue to the Science Park, from there to the TNF tower and finally back to the start at Kepler Hall. The route also impresses with its scenery: the green campus of the JKU, which is one of the most beautiful in all of Austria.
In the various competitions, the approximately two kilometer long route, most of which runs on gravel paths, is completed with varying frequency. You can choose from:
The Ten kilometer run is open to all experienced runners. According to Adam Riese, we walk through the campus five times. Starts at 6:30 p.m. The participation fee is 20 euros plus processing fee until May 19th, then 25 euros until registration closes on June 4th.
It starts at the same time “Fun Run” over four kilometers for everyone who wants to take it a little more leisurely. The joint award ceremony starts at 8 p.m. Entry fee: 15 euros until May 19th, then 20 euros.
It starts at 4 p.m Relay race, which is reserved for JKU students and employees. Each member of the three-person team completes one lap of the main route. Participation is free. The winners will be recognized at 5 p.m.
The big innovation in this year’s race is… “School Run”, starts at 2 p.m. School classes compete against each other. The running takes place on a separate, 450 meter long route. The class that completes the most laps in 15 minutes wins. The students will be given a tour of the JKU campus in advance.
Registration for the run is already open and runs until June 4th, the day before the run. The starting documents are handed out before each individual competition.
It will also be exciting to see whether the best values from last year will be exceeded this year: the fastest man needed 36:05 minutes for the ten-kilometer run, while the women took 43:38 minutes. The first season finished in 2023 after exactly 21 minutes.
