The mayor of Montevideo and presidential candidate for the Broad Front (FA)Carolina Cosseproposed increasing the budget allocated to the development of the science applied to the agroindustrial sector, and assured that the country should have “a powerful growth agenda” hand in hand with investment in technology.

Interviewed by En la mira, the Broad Front highlighted the fact that “Uruguay has an undeniable” and “very important” agroindustrial base, but that the country needs economic measures with respect to current production.

“I think that he agricultural sector is the one who most quickly understood the benefit of associating with science,” highlighted the capital’s leader, but added: “We need to scale, there is more to grow.”

cosse understands that the field is “a very important issue” for the Uruguay and the scientific research carried out in the field should be “articulated” National Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) and those of the Faculty of Agronomy of the University of the Republic (Udelar). “There is a lack of articulation and escalation,” she insisted.

Along the same lines, he criticized the fact that Uruguay allocates less than 1% of investment for science and technology, when this percentage is the one recommended by the United Nations Organization (UN). “We are far away, yes, we have to go there,” he said in this regard.

“Tax justice must be deepened”

On the other hand, he assured that the State should “deepen the tax justice“, and positively valued the measures that were taken during the two governments of the former president Tabare Vazquezwith Danilo Astori as minister of Economy and Finance.
