Just in time for the start of the release of cannabis on Monday, supporters want to welcome the new regulation at midnight with a so-called smoke-in at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. “A new era is dawning: Cannabis Normal,” announced the Hemp Association. From 11:30 p.m. on Sunday evening, people want to gather at the Brandenburg Gate so that they can smoke weed, i.e. smoke marijuana, in public at midnight when the law comes into force on April 1st.

“It is allowed to ignite at 12:00 a.m.,” said the hemp association and asked all participants to “observe the night’s rest and of course the cannabis ban that still applies until midnight.” The event is officially registered with the police as a demonstration.
More events planned
Smaller events are planned in other cities for Easter Monday, “with which the cannabis community will welcome and celebrate the entry into force of the Cannabis Act,” according to the association. Leipzig, Hamburg, Nuremberg, Heidelberg, Regensburg, Dortmund, Cologne, Mönchengladbach and Suhl were mentioned.

In Cologne, a “Kiff-Inn” was announced at the cathedral. The association wrote about the demonstration in Hamburg: “Many of us have been fighting for this day for decades and have given everything again in the last two years.” They now also want to show “that we are part of this society”. In consultation with the police, care will be taken “to ensure that consumption is not carried out in the presence of children and young people”.
