Álvaro Delgado proposes creating a multi-force group to combat drug trafficking

He presidential candidate for the National Party (PN), Álvaro Delgadoproposed creating a “multi-force group” to combat the drug trafficking in the national territory, and promote strategies similar to those deployed by the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate (DIA) of Italy in their pursuit of criminal organizations.

This Monday, in an interview on Channel 10, the white politician stated that, if he holds the Presidency, he will deploy this multi-force group, and the Italian DIA will be asked for advice based on his experience, which was recently in Uruguayworking together with the Police.

“In some countries that was applied, obviously we have to apply it to the Uruguayan model,” he stated. Slim who acknowledged that they are thinking of promoting it starting next year, but that it needs “a budgetary framework” to carry it forward.

In that sense, Slim He explained that a multi-force group makes it possible to create “an area of ​​coordination established against organized crime and drug trafficking.”

What bodies would make up the multiforce group?

Then, Slim He explained that the group would be made up of the National Policethe Secretariat of State Strategic Intelligencehe Ministry of Defence through the Prefecturehe National Army and the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU), the National Customs Directoratethe Financial Information and Analysis Unit (UIAF) of the Central Bank of Uruguay (BCU)the National Secretariat for the Fight against Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism (Senaclaft), among others.

Likewise, he pointed out that each one will depend “on the same organization”, but that they would remain under “police coordination, in a legislative framework that must generate a structure and budget redistributions.” When asked if the multi-force group would depend directly on the Presidency, the candidate clarified that it will be part of the Ministry of Interiorand will also seek to decentralize the work of the Republican Guard throughout the country.
