After the birth of a child, breastfeeding can pose problems for new mothers. Although feeding an infant seems to be a matter of course, there are always difficulties that can lead to early weaning, which is often unwanted by mothers. Professional advice with a targeted search for the cause can help. Trained breastfeeding and lactation consultants (IBCLC) are available in the Gmunden district. They have a basic medical profession and are also certified as lactation consultants. The women also support (expectant) parents in breastfeeding groups, mother counseling, breastfeeding preparation courses or with workshops.
Vöcklabruck’s IBCLC also work with the obstetrics ward at the Salzkammergut Clinic in Vöcklabruck. “It is important that the mothers find out about us in the hospital so that the support does not stop after they are discharged,” says Angelika Attwenger, IBCLC regional manager in Salzkammergut. The communities in the Vöcklabruck district also support the regional breastfeeding consultants.
With the help of this network, parents can be well supported. It is important to contact a specialist early on if you have any difficulties or pain while breastfeeding. Breastfeeding advice can be useful even before the birth.
