ÖEHV women lost 3:5 to France at the B-WM

North American legionnaire Theresa Schafzahl scored twice.

The Austrians had to admit defeat to A-WM relegated France 3:5 (1:1,1:1,1:3) on Wednesday evening despite leading three times and are now 2:3 after a 6:0 victory over South Korea against Norway only in fourth place in the table. On Friday we play against Hungary and on Saturday against the Netherlands.

ÖEHV head coach Alexander Bröms spoke of great disappointment in the team in an ORF interview. “It’s really frustrating. We were ahead three times. Somehow we couldn’t hold on, France kept coming back. Maybe we didn’t prepare the team as we should have,” he said, self-critically. It was due to small details, small individual errors. “But we accept the defeat as a team. The chance of promotion is over.”

Captain Anna Meixner also had disappointment written on her face. “Extremely bitter, I’m a bit at a loss for words. The team will was there, we came out of the dressing room strong and really wanted it. It’s a hard pill to swallow. But there are positive aspects to be taken from all three or four lines. We created a great offense.”

In a balanced game, Lena Dauböck provided the first celebration in the Heidi Horten Arena in the 11th minute and the 1-0 win for Austria. The lead only lasted four minutes before France equalized through Estelle Duvin (15th). In the second third, Theresa Schafzahl put the hosts in front again from a power play in the 23rd minute. Captain Anna Meixner subsequently missed a chance to make it 3-1.

But the French then pushed for an equalizer and these efforts were rewarded by Clara Rozier (35th).

Minutes 50 and 51 brought the turning point

In the final section, Schafzahl perfectly deflected a shot from Anna Meixner and gave the ÖEHV women the lead for the third time in the 43rd minute. The Austrians then controlled the match for some time, but then France turned the match around with a double strike in the 50th and 51st minutes: Rozier and Emma Nonnenmacher made it 4-3 with a long-range shot, and Duvin scored into the empty goal in the final minute .
