“Together we could think about ideas more broadly”

High honors for JKU researcher Richard Küng

Richard Küng from the Institute for Integrated Circuits at the JKU has already received numerous prizes and awards for his research in the field of theoretical mathematics.

Now he has been given an honor that also demonstrates his excellent reputation among his scientific colleagues: Küng was elected to the Young Academy of Sciences – making him one of 34 newcomers this year.

In addition to the philosophical-historical and scientific classes, the Young Academy is the third pillar of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). Membership lasts for eight years.

Exchange platform

The academy serves as a platform for exchange between young scientists from all disciplines. Küng also considers this to be urgently needed: “Together we could think of ideas and visions much broader and bigger, stimulate each other, but also ground each other. As far as I can tell, the Young Academy has exactly this claim.”

Küng was born in 1988 and studied physics at ETH Zurich. After his doctoral thesis at the University of Cologne, which he completed “summa cum laude”, he conducted research in Berlin and California. He is currently a university professor at the JKU. He continues to be enthusiastic about his field of research: “I hope to be able to say in a few years that I have not only found my job but also my calling as a freelance basic researcher and university lecturer in Austria,” he says. The exchange and collaboration with colleagues from the ÖAW could be a key factor in this.
