“In our region we feel the advantages of Europe even more clearly than in metropolitan regions, which is why we have to continually develop this common European house. Students benefit from this, as do companies of all sizes, especially in the areas of tourism, crafts and manufacturing, and last but not least We as citizens,” says Gabriele Lackner-Strauss, chairwoman of the Euregio in the Mühlviertel, who, together with her counterparts in Bavaria and South Bohemia, is calling on citizens to make use of their right to vote. The border regions of Europe are particularly important: this is how the The EU supports various projects in the region in numerous programs and offers many opportunities for joint development. These range from rural development to the topics of climate change and biodiversity to education, culture and tourism.

For more than 30 years, the Euregio has been committed to the development of the three-country region Germany – Austria – Czech Republic.

In autumn 2024, it will host a future forum at which representatives from all three countries will determine the future direction of border area development. All citizens are of course invited to share their ideas with the Euregio office via email (info@euregio3.org) or in a personal conversation.

Use the right to vote

Before that, however, we still have to beat the EU elections. Chairwoman Gabriele Lackner-Strauss, District Administrator Sebastian Gruber and District Councilor and Mayor Libor Picka are convinced of the importance of the European elections for the citizens of the three-country region.

They argue primarily with the advantages, knowing full well that there are also problems that need to be solved in the European Union.

Highlight advantages

Freedom of travel, freedom of establishment, customs union, European quality standards, joint overcoming of enormous challenges such as the Corona crisis, the Green Deal as an answer to climate change and relief in everyday life such as the abolition of roaming fees: These are all advantages of the EU that are directly reflected on people’s lives, especially in the border region.
