The Lower Austrians won the top game at the Altach/Vorderland syndicate 2:1 (0:1) in the 17th round on Sunday and can no longer be pushed off the top with one match day before the end of the season. The “Wolves” hold 45 points, Vienna and Altach/Vorderland follow eight points behind.
The game didn’t start as desired for St. Pölten. The hosts took the lead in Röthis with a beautiful free kick from Sabrina Horvat from a good 20 meters (18th). As a result, the Vorarlberg women were the more aggressive team and gave the guests little space. During the break, SKN coach Liese Brancao must have found the right words, because the defending champions came out of the locker room transformed. Mateja Zver turned the game around with two impressive shots from the edge of the penalty area (47th, 51st).
The St. Pölten team, who would have won the title with a draw, couldn’t take their victory away. With the double again, the Brancao team can be considered a “role model” for the men from Sturm Graz, who want to emulate the Lower Austrians in the evening. St. Pölten also remains undefeated at national level this season.
