Between 6 p.m. and midnight local time (5 p.m. to 11 p.m. CEST), commercial and private consumers should be disconnected from the network on an hourly basis, the utility Ukrenergo (Ukrenerho) said. “The power supply for critical infrastructure facilities is not restricted,” it said. The power cuts are intended to limit consumption and stabilize the grid after Russian air strikes in March and April crippled more than 40 percent of Ukraine’s electricity production.
Utilities such as the DTEK company in Kiev have drawn up plans as to which streets will be switched off at which hours. Accordingly, the shutdown should be three hours or four in the specified six-hour period.
