149 km/h in the 70s: Police pulled 38 vehicles and four drivers out of traffic during checks

38 vehicle drivers had their license plates taken away.

Together with forces from the state transport department, the Linz-Land district administration and experts from the state government (colloquially known as the “inspection train”), the police carried out priority checks in the area around Plus City on Whit Sunday. More than 12,000 vehicles were checked for speed and more than 50 vehicles were checked by the test train.

The result: The license plates of 38 vehicles had to be removed due to so-called technical defects. “Usually, technical defects mean worn tires or broken brakes. However, the vehicles in this inspection had incorrectly registered add-on parts,” said the police when asked by OÖN.

During one of these license plate checks, there was strong resistance from the driver concerned, a German citizen, which ended in an arrest. The man from Deggendorf’s white BMW was lowered, so the license plate was removed. There was a confrontation with a police officer. A video of this is circulating on social media under the keyword “police violence”. “A classic perpetrator-victim reversal,” says the police. The man is expected to be charged with resistance to state authority.

279 speeding charges

In addition to having their license plates removed, four drivers had to hand in their driving licenses. In addition, there were a total of 279 reports of speeding. A vehicle was clocked at 149 km/h in a 70 speed limit. Another raced through the Linz city area at 116 km/h. No vehicle was confiscated.

The violations of the law are not directly related to the Night of Wheels. There were no reports at the event in the Plus City parking garage itself, where tuners showcased their vehicles and where the police were also present. Four people had to be treated by the rescue team for minor complaints, and one person was taken to hospital for treatment.
