For Michael it still comes naturally. He couldn’t have just moved on without doing something. No matter how small or large the animal was, it lay on the ground and was ignored by the vast majority of people who walked through Gmunden’s Kirchengasse.
On May 6th, the twelve-year-old from Kirchham saved the life of a male bat. Because he not only picked her up and protected her, but also took her by tram to the meeting point with animal keeper Gabi Kaar from the Aurachtal wildlife station. He also made the “emergency call” independently.
Kaar, who has been working at the station in Altmünster for eleven years, was so moved by the event that she also used the media to look for the secret hero – because she had forgotten to exchange contact details in her hurry.
“Help all living things”
A few days ago, the twelve-year-old’s mother got in touch and said that Michael would be happy to accept Kaar’s offer to spend a day together at the wildlife station. On Saturday, the twelve-year-old was even allowed to help feed the animals and release a healthy bird into the wild.
Michael is a student in Gmunden and, unsurprisingly, loves animals, but also sports, nature and, above all, the mountains. His favorite mountain: “The Traunstein, of course.” For him it is natural to help all living beings immediately when they are in need. (against)
