With 27.01 million vacation trips, the number was not only around 8 percent above the 2022 value and more than a quarter above the pre-pandemic level in 2019, but also reached the highest value since the survey began, statistics show Austria. Business trips also increased significantly.

However, almost a quarter of the population did not go on vacation. Carinthia had the highest proportion of non-travelers at 29.5 percent, followed by Burgenland at 27.9 percent. Those who did not travel cited “having no motive for traveling” (50.8 percent), “financial reasons” (33.1 percent) and “health reasons or limited mobility” (33.0 percent) as the main reasons for this.

Over half of those who enjoyed traveling went abroad, especially to Italy, Germany and Croatia. Within Austria, most trips went to Styria and Lower Austria. Statistics Austria also counts visits to relatives and friends as holiday trips.
