The Korneuburg public prosecutor’s office came to the conclusion that the man acted in justified self-defense, spokeswoman Gudrun Bischof confirmed on Wednesday in response to an online report from the “Kurier”. The case was dropped “on the basis of the entire investigation,” Bischof said. The course of events and the firing of the shots were also reconstructed by a ballistics expert.

During the home invasion, a 50-year-old woman was injured by blows to the face on the night of February 7th. Her husband came to her aid and the 71-year-old fired three shots. A projectile hit a suspect. The Romanian remained wounded in the garden and was ultimately arrested. Another suspect was later taken into custody in Romania on the basis of a European arrest warrant and extradited to Austria.
The case, which was initially conducted in Korneuburg, has now been transferred to the Vienna public prosecutor’s office. Bischof stated that there was a connection “to an earlier crime” in the federal capital.
