Pope Francis participated in the closing of the International Meeting of Meaning and launched the University of Meaning

With a day full of emotions, the International Meeting of Meaningan initiative organized by Scholas Occurrentes and the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean (CAF) in response to the call of Pope Francisco.

The event culminated with the presence of the Supreme Pontiff, who officially launched the University of Sensean institution that seeks address the crisis of meaning that afflicts the contemporary world. The participants gave him a document with the conclusions and proposals to include in the new university.

The executive president of CAF – Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean -, Sergio Diaz Granados, and the entity’s Corporate Vice President of Strategic Programming, Christian Asinelli, were some of the personalities who joined the event

After being consulted about the meaning of a University of Sensethe Pope answered: “It is a danger of confusing education with mere instruction. The University of Sense invites you to work with three languages: that of the mind, the hands and the heart. That a student thinks what he feels and what he does, feels what he thinks and what he does, does what he feels and what he thinks. If one does not move in the three languages, one remains halfway. The three senses give meaning.”

International Meeting of Meaning: the main moments of the event

Another intervention was made by the comedian Luquitas Rodríguez, a participant in the meeting, who asked him, what role does art play in the search for meaning? The Holy Father stated that Art pushes forward, liberates and makes people understand many things. To close the response he quoted a fragment of the poetry “Evernees”, by Jorge Luis Borges, which caused a standing ovation from the audience present.

On the other hand, the artist and youtuber Karen Polynesia He asked the Holy Father: What is the first thing a person who is going through great pain has to do? To which Francisco replied “that leaving your heart open is the best thing one can do, since when pain opens to the help of another, it is fruitful.” And he capped his response with a call to make room for hope.

There was also testimony from Isidora Uribe Silvaactivist for inclusion and creator of the organization “Find your place”, who spoke about the importance of the existence of this type of spaces.

During this event he was asked delivery of a cloak made by artisans and Argentine artisans to the Holy Father, which brings together the different artisan traditions of the country.

This meeting brought together rectors of the most prestigious universities in the world, influential personalities from culture, politics and technology, young community leaders and prominent artists, with the aim of seeking concrete solutions to the current and future challenges facing the world.
